Hi there!

I am René Rivera, and I am so happy you made it to my blog. This is a space where I will share the story of my life — so far — and what I have learned from all my different experiences. Everything I talk about is close to my heart in some way.

About me

My life has been full of clichés, the kind you see in movies but wish would stay on the screen. A difficult childhood, a broken family, bullying, financial struggles, and troublesome relationships, you name it, I’ve lived it. I even survived dengue fever, an illegal immigration stint, and a car accident that nearly claimed my life — all before I turned 16.

But those experiences didn’t define me. I reached a breaking point where I decided enough was enough. I refused to let life’s hardships write my story for me. Instead, I took control, determined to shape my own future, even if that did happen several times throughout my life. The important thing is I didn’t give up.

It hasn’t been easy. Growing up in a constantly moving, unstable home left me searching for something I couldn’t quite find. As an adult, that search for stability led me down some difficult paths, but each twist and turn taught me something valuable. I’ve faced love and heartbreak, success and failure, happiness and sadness, and through it all, I’ve learned the importance of perseverance and knowing what I truly want from life.

Fast forward to today, and I’m in a much better place. I’m employed in the tech sector, where I’m constantly learning and expanding my knowledge; continuous growth brings me a deep sense of satisfaction. I’m also in a new relationship, and recently engaged. My partner has opened my mind to a whole new world of opportunities and experiences that I never imagined possible. Together, we enjoy exploring, attending concerts, and traveling, embracing the joy that life has to offer.

I’m not here to claim that I have all the answers. But I’m here to share my story: the ups, the downs, and everything in between. My hope is that by opening up about my experiences, I can offer some insight or comfort to others who are going through their own processes of self-discovery.

Why This Blog?

Starting this blog feels like stepping into the unknown.

I’m about to share parts of my life that I’ve held close, and the thought of putting it all out there for anyone to see is both exciting and a bit unnerving. But I believe there’s power in sharing our stories.

My hope is that by opening up about my experiences, I can connect with others, like you, who might be facing similar challenges. This blog is a space for honesty, growth, and connection, and I’m ready to share it all with you. It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it and bring enlightenment.

And as you learn more about me, I hope you also learn more about yourself. If just one person who reads my blog is changed by it or can adjust their life sooner, then it is a success.

Life Lessons: What to Expect

In this blog, I’ll be discussing four key areas that have shaped my life: relationships, parents and children, habits and addiction, and self-improvement. Each of these topics holds personal significance for me, and I believe they resonate with many of you as well.

Relationships

Relationships are at the core of our lives. Whether romantic, familial, or friendships, the connections we form with others can bring immense joy — or deep pain. I experienced both the highs and lows of relationships and learned the importance of recognizing red flags, setting boundaries, and knowing when to walk away. Relationships have been a constant theme in my life, and I’ll be sharing the lessons I’ve learned to help you have healthy relationships, identify warning signs in problematic relationships, and walk away when you need to.

Parents and Children

Growing up in a constantly changing environment, I understand the impact that our upbringing can have on who we become. My childhood was far from stable, and that instability shaped many of my struggles as an adult. In this section of the blog, I’ll explore the dynamics between parents and children, the lessons passed down through generations, and how we can break cycles to create healthier relationships within our families. These dynamics are important because they lay the foundation for so much of who we are.

Habits and Addiction

Habits can make or break us, and I’ve experienced this firsthand. It could be the small daily routines that build us up or the destructive behaviors that drag us down, either way, habits play a huge role in our lives. I’ve battled with addiction, the grip it can have, and how it can destroy various areas of my life; I’ve learned the hard way how important it is to cultivate positive habits, but I’ve done it. Through my experiences — and a bit of science — we’ll discover the power of habits, the challenges of breaking free from addiction, and how you can use this to build a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Self-Improvement

At the heart of everything I write is a commitment to self-improvement. After years of letting life happen to me, I made the choice to take control and become the author of my own story. Self-improvement is a lifelong effort, one that requires dedication, reflection, and a willingness to change. I’ll share the steps I’ve taken to grow, heal, and become the best version of myself. My hope is that these insights will inspire you to focus on your own journey of self-discovery and growth.

Each of these topics is more than just a category: They’re pieces of a puzzle that, when put together, tell the story of my life. They’re the areas where I’ve struggled, grown, and found my way, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned with you. Whether you’re here for camaraderie, advice, comfort, or just a new perspective, I’m sure you’ll find something that resonates with you.

Red Flags: A Journey of Self-Discovery and Emotional Introspection

As I get into the topics of relationships, personal growth, and life lessons here on the blog, I’m excited to share that I’m also working on something bigger: A book that is part memoir, part self-help which goes even deeper into these important subjects and giving you an intimate glimpse into my life. In particular, the book will focus on recognizing and understanding red flags in relationships.

We’ve all heard the term “red flags,” but what does that really mean? How can we spot them early on, and more importantly, what should we do when we see them? My book will explore these questions in detail, drawing from my personal experiences and contrasting them with the stories of others, both good and bad.

Through this book, I aim to provide a guide to help you work through the complexities of relationships — whether you’re dating, in a long-term partnership, or reflecting on past experiences. By shedding light on the warning signs that often go unnoticed, I hope to empower you to make healthier choices and nurture stronger, more fulfilling connections.
